My name is Andy

This was the outcome of an Adobe illustrator tutorial, where i learned the basics and some tips to help me when creating typography in illustrator.

Shoes

The aim of this task was to create a phrase using materials rather than actual typefaces, my first idea was to use crisps in the shape of letters to create my phrase but found it way too difficult, my second idea was to make some biscuits or shortbread but thought that that could easily go wrong and would be a huge waste of time, so i came up with my final idea which was to place shoes together to create letters, i decided to stick with this theme and write the word “shoes’ as it seemed quite appropriate.

The no typeface alphabet

Alphabet

These are the pictures i took of objects that aren’t typography but could resemble a typeface, while i was doing this task i was thinking about how the letters would look together if they where made into a word.

I found some letters that could be change (by rotating or flipping) to become different letters, i also found some letters multiple times, i did not get all 26 letters of the alphabet, i found about 18/19 some of which are unclear that there is a letter in the image.

Task 1

Task 1:

to choose three typefaces from around me,…

  1. a traditional, classic typeface
  2. a modern, clear, functional typeface
  3. a funky, trendy typeface

…and explain why i chose them and why the typefaces fit the description.

Hand rendered typography practise

This was a mini task that was given to me as a way of training to hand draw typefaces perfectly, the task was helpful because before it i rarely drew letters or typography by hand, i would usually leave that part to the computer as i thought that digital typography was more clean and crisp, however i will be doing more hand rendered typography in the future.

Hand drawn letters

observational

In this task i had to use observational skill to recreate three letter “f’s” by hand drawing the them to scale and shading them in.
